Through its global grants programs, the Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Foundation has awarded a USD $3,000 grant to the BGCSC to support their efforts to fight childhood obesity through the implementation of the Kids Café/Healthy Habits program.  Representing the MDRT Foundation, Bob Joki, Of Bob Joki, CLU, and Assoc., presented the grant award check on March 3rd at the South Everett/Mukilteo Boys & Girls Club.

The BGCSC’s Kids Café Healthy Habits program focuses on increasing the health and wellness of our youth and combating childhood obesity through nutrition education, making it possible for kids to receive their required daily nutrition through meals/snacks that they would otherwise not have access to.  Health and community-based organizations nation-wide agree that malnutrition negatively impacts children in the areas of cognitive development, and academic performance.  Bill Tsoukalas, Executive Director of BGCSC, states, “We are grateful for the generous support of the MDRT Foundation.  Their partnership and support of our Kids Café/Healthy Habits program will help us addresses food insecurity among low income youth in Snohomish County.”

InspireHER to host Law & Justice Day

Girls in grades 8-12 are invited to learn about law and justice careers and the role of the legal system in their lives at a free event hosted by InspireHER and the Snohomish County Chapter of the Washington Women Lawyers. The “Don’t Judge Me” Workshop was held Saturday, March 11, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Alderwood Boys & Girls Club.

“This is an opportunity for young women to learn about the workings of the legal system, talk to experts in the field and look at various career options in law and law enforcement,” said Marci Volmer, Snohomish Boys & Girls Club Director. “We know that the adage ‘You can’t be what you can’t see’ is very real, so we want to give girls a chance to imagine careers that they might not have considered.”

The event will cover topics such as sexual consent and knowing your rights, as well as a career panel and a mock trial to wrap up the workshop. Speakers include local judges, law enforcement officers, lawyers, public defenders, and more. Lunch will be provided.

Girls attending will also have the chance to participate in an Instagram scavenger hunt for a chance to win law-inspired prizes. To get in on the fun, please see the guidelines, and follow along on social media by using the hashtags #DontJudgeMe, and #InspireHER.

InspireHER is an organization powered by the Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County (BGCSC) and Moss Adams LLC that works to improve the lives of girls, and inspire them to succeed. For more information about the organization, please visit the InspireHER page on our website.

This workshop is free, and each registration includes a free, one-year membership to the Boys & Girls Club. Register at

Annual Grand Gala Auction

BGC-0316On October 8, 2016, we held our annual “Reach for the Stars” Grand Gala Auction at the Tulalip Resort Casino. This event raised over $470,000  to provide programs for our kids geared toward academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good citizenship.

We strive to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

Hundreds to Participate in Summer Olympics at BGCSC

This summer, immediately following the Summer Olympics in Rio, as many as 150 children are expected to participate in athletic competitions such as the long jump, the 50-yard dash, and basketball shootouts. The day-long event is hosted by the Boys & Girls Club of Snohomish County – Everett Unit and sponsored by UnitedHealthcare Community Plan.

BGC Summer Olympics 8-2016-0106Earlier this year, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan of Washington joined the Boys & Girls Clubs of Washington (BGCWA) as a Healthy Lifestyle Partner. Together, these organizations are engaging local youth across the state in nutrition education and the promotion of physical activity to fight the growing rate of childhood obesity. This Olympic Games competition and celebration is an opportunity for the children to recognize how far they have come in developing those important life skills. It’s one of a series of Healthy Lifestyle events UnitedHealthcare is sponsoring with Boys & Girls Clubs across Washington State this year.
